BREAKING BARRIERS WITH EDUCATION
This year our Project with our JEPC students is to send our children to a Private English Boarding School. On the surface, this year’s project appears to focus in and around education, but in so doing, Building Education is actually able to branch out and support and foster a number of other equally important supports and services in the area. Ultimately, Building Education is using the education of the community’s children as a means to bring about significant and much needed changes within the slums. In starting first with the education of our children, it is our aim to effect and impact a greater number of areas, including the overall development of the slums and the creation of contributing leaders within the community itself.
Education in Nepal is a privilege as the costs for admissions, uniforms and books are high. Being born into the slums, they repeat the cycle of poverty because their parents are put into the lowest caste system making it difficult to find work and nearly impossible to afford education let alone feed their families.
By providing education to the children, Building Education serves to break that barrier.
Private English Boarding School ensures the highest of education with the most qualified teachers – most importantly, they teach all subjects in English.
Because tourism takes a vital role in the economy of Nepal, learning the English language fluently provides students with the greatest opportunities to a stable job in the future, empowering them to be the change in their own community.

OUR PROGRESS
We support several projects in the rural areas of Nepal
We have been able to do so in large part due to a simple change in a belief. This change in belief has created a ripple effect, and has allowed us to the opportunity to rebuild the JEPC Education which had been damaged by the Nepal earthquake in 2015. The rebuild of this centre has been pivotal as it has allowed the community the continuation and maintenance of a hub that not only provides educational supports to children, but also a safe environment with access to clean drinking water and food.
Building Education has also brought water and electricity to the slums of Nepal for the first time. While taken for granted by much of the world, the two acquisitions of water and electricity have worked to provide greater access to elements that enhance the quality of daily life.
We have been fortunate enough to provide education, school materials, books and uniforms to the children living in the slums in addition to the provision of food and medical care. In providing the access to such amenities, we believe we are ultimately setting our children up for success, not only in their education and learning, but also in the development into contributing and consciously aware members of their community.
